Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Security Light on 1998 Buick Century 3.1L, mechanic shop, buick dealer

Question
Security light started coming on while driving. Then it would go off for awhile. Finally, in June, car failed to start. Had key and cylinder replaced. No problems until November. Security light came on while driving. Parked car 4 hours and tried to start. Nothing. This happened on Thursday the 8th. I had it towed back to mechanic, but they weren't able to look at it until Monday the 12th. It started for them and they didn't get any codes on the computer. Next weekend the light comes on while driving. I park at home and go to work the next morning (no light). I go to leave work and it won't start. Security light is on. I am parked in boss's spot so we push it to another spot. On a whim, I try again and it starts but the security light is on. I leave the car at work. On Monday I call the local Buick dealer (which is where I normally have my work done). The car starts without the security light being on. The dealer cannot find anything. His opinion is the key and cylinder is bad. I take the car back to the first shop. They say if the key/cylinder is bad it would never start. They can't find anything else wrong and without the security light on the computer can't find anything either. I am afraid to drive the car with the fear that it might not start at any time and leave me stranded. Any ideas?

Answer
Hi
I would first take it to ORIGINAL mechanic shop and see if it is under or what type of warranty they offer with their services.
IF they got that part from GM, it SHOULD have some type of warranty.
I DO NOT think you should have to pay for anything.
If the car IS NOT fixed.....
I would also have them check the PCM and BCM for codes.
There SHOULD at least be a history BCM code.
You MAY have a faulty Ignition switch (electrical pportion) NOT the key cylinder switch (2 different switches)
The BCM may also be at fault.
Please follow back if I may assist....
Good Luck
