Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1999 Aurora wiper issues, olds aurora, purple wire

Question
QUESTION: Hello,
For about a month, I have had a wiper problem on my 1999 Olds Aurora (4.0L).  Basically the wipers don't work at all.  If you put it in high, the motor will turn, but only lifting the wipers about 2 inches, and down again.  Any other speed will not work.  I've replaced the motor, the motor board (controls interm. speeds) and also the swing arm that connects the motor to control arm.  I still get the same thing.  Any ideas?  If it helps, this quit working with no warning.  Has worked fine since winter.  I'm running out of ideas!

ANSWER: Hi
With the wiper transmission (swing arm) unhooked from the motor, does the motor seem to operate properly? Does it run slow in low and fast in high?

QUESTION: With the arm detached from the motor, it will do the same thing -->  only operate at high speed.  Does this car have a relay that could be bad, or could it possibly be something with the controls on the steering column?

Answer
Hi
On high the purple wire going to the motor AT THE MOTOR should get hot (12volts)
On low speed, the dark green wire should get hot.
If so on both, the motor is faulty.
If not the switch on the column is at fault.
I would at this point suspect the switch.
I have changed numerous switches on Riveras.I hope this helps.
If more info, please post back.
Good Luck
