Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: hot car, olds alero, service engine soon light

Question
I have an 02 olds alero.  automatic 3.4L  v6
I recently got a new catalytic coverter put on my car, since then when it gets really hot outside (over 100) my car starts to shift really hard, but then later on in the evening when it cools down outside my car will run just fine. one time my service engine soon light even came on, but then it went off a couple days later when it wasn't so hot outside.  I also just got my air conditioning flushed and recharged and now it's taking like 30-45 minutes to cool the inside of my car down. this doesn't seem right.  I'm mostly concerned about the hard shifting when it's hot outside.  could the two possibly be related?  the error code with the service engine soon light was p0113.  is the air intake causing all these problems?  what kind of repair cost should i be expecting when i take it in?  is this something that i can check on my own without having to count on a repair shop/dealership to rip me off? (i've had many bad experiences with them).  Thank you dearly.

Answer
Hi
P0113 CAN cause the problems your experiencing.
I would first make sure the IAT sensor is plugged in (located in the air tube, between the air filter and the engine.)
IF it is, the wire is MOST LIKELY broken inside the insulation (VERY COMMON problem on this sensor because it is tugged and pulled on so much).
Your mechanic SHOULD be able to pull on each wire going to the sensor (2 wires) about 2-3 inches back. Pull kinda hard. If bad the wire will stretch and break, as the copper is actually broken in the insulation.
If thats the problem the connector can be purchased for around $20.00 from GM and labor is dependent on your mechanic.
Ask them to make sure there is no P0128 Correlation code also, it appears when the IAT is not acting correct.
I Hope this helps.
Good luck
