Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: will not start when hot, camshaft position sensor, powertrain control module

Question
my friend has a '98 Buick Regal Sport with a 3.8l engine. when the car is cold it starts fine, when it warms up it will not start, as far as we can tell it does not have spark when it fails to start, can you tell me the parts that are most likely to be failing?

Answer
Hi
I would HIGHLY suspect the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP).
When they fail  they fail similar to what you describe.
It'll USUALLY set a code.
You also COULD have faulty wires from sensor to ICM (ignition Control Module)
The ICM Could be going faulty. The Wires from ICM to PCM (powertrain Control Module..aka computer). Or the PCM.
You may also check to see if you have any security codes.
Also check to see if the injectors are pulsing, if not suspect the Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP).
I Hope this helps
Good Luck
