Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Oldsmobile Van dies repeatedly, oldsmobile silhouette, crank sensor

Question
I have an 1993 Oldsmobile Silhouette I am not sure of the engine size. The question I have is this. The van starts fine and runs great, until you drive about 8 to 10 miles. It will then just die with no warning you try to start it again after it dies it will turn over fine just doesnt start. If I wait about 10 minutes or so it will start back up and run fine for another 8-10 miles then the same thing again. I suspect a heat related problem due to the fact that cooling down will let it start again. I can hear the fuel pump run so I dont really think its a fuel issue. I am starting to suspect actually a sensor of some sort. Just wondering if maybe you can help me out ? Thanks

Answer
Hi
I would try to check for fuel pressure, and check for spark at plugs.
Fuel, fire and compression is all an engine needs to run.
One of these must be missing.
Since it runs OK at other times we can eliminate compression.
If you do not have proper fuel pressure (35-45 psi) your vehicle WILL NOT start.
It sounds like you are probabally loosing fire.
I would suspect (depending on engine size) the crank sensor.
It also could be the ICM (ignition control module).
If you can determine what your loosing (fuel, fire) and follow post back with engine size, I'll be MORE than happy to follow up and help as much as possible.
I hope this helps.
Good luck
