Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: AC Problem, amp fuse, compressor clutch

Question
The AC on our 1991 Olds 88 Royal has not worked in 7 years.  We took it in and had it changed over and charged up.  Now it throws the 25 amp fuse and that also makes the control center go dark and unusable.  Is there another fuse or circuit breaker somewhere to check or do we have a short?

Answer
Hello Jay,
Could be a short, but could also be just too much load for the fuse.
If it is a circuit breaker that trips, it could just be weak and worn out.
Ohm testing, or circuit amp draw testing would be the correct next step, to see just how much power is flowing, or what is drawing too much.
Is there any chance that this might be the reason it hasn't been used for so long?

Possoble causes of too much draw, or a short, and the compressor clutch winding, the blower motor winding, or a relay or wire.
The blower motor is the same that is used for the heater, so if it works good for it, I would expect it to not be the problem now.

Loose wire connections can also cause too much power to flow through the fuse.
