Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Ignition Cylinder, haynes book, steering column

Question
I lost my keys and ended up having to replace the ignition cylinder. I dismantled steering assembly as instructed in haynes book. I couldnt pull the 2 cylinder wires from the column, so i cut the wires and attached the wires from the new cylinder. When i turn the key the accessories come on, but nothing from the starter. No click or anything. Battery is charged. Steering assembly is not put back together yet, in case that has anything to do with it. I checked the ign. relays and all is good. I can turn the key back and forth just no start. Any suggestions? Also the key buzzer thing with the two wire strips coming off of it, is broken. is that nessecery?

Answer
Hello Zac,
I don't know what year model you have.
In 90's or so, there was no actual electric connection up where the key tumbler is, but rather, there is a switch down on the steering column, operated by a rod from the tumbler/tilt joint. The shifter has to be in neutral or park for it to work.
