Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 92 olds CS starting problem, cutlass supreme, negative cable

Question
hi there!  I've been having some problems with my cutlass supreme S(3.1L V6).  I would go out to start it and it would act as if the battery was dead.  it's been doing this since October of last year.  It'll start if we jump it.  When it first started, this would happen every three or four days.  Now it's an hour after the car is shut off.  We thought it was a drain on the battery, so we got a new battery, alternator, changed the cables, did parasitic drain tests(with nothing coming up), and tested the starter.
Something strange has been happening.  Last Wednesday, we went out to start it and it was dead.  we left it alone for 3 days.  When we went out on Saturday to jump it, it started right up without a jump.  So if the battery is getting power sometimes, even after seeming to be dead, it's probably not a drain issue.  But we have no idea what it could be.  The mechanic we took it to couldn't find anything.  If you could give me some ideas, that would be wonderful!

Thanks!
Melissa

Answer
Hi Melissa! first things first, i would make absolutely sure that my cables were clean and tight. make sure that the negative cable is clean and tightly secured to the engine block. also, there is a jumpstart post, very important to be clean and tight. if this didn't help, i'd remove the starter, and make sure that the mounting surface is clean, the starter grounds itself here. if all else failed, i'd try replacing the starter. let me know if you have any luck.
