Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Intermittent starting problems, test port, fuel pressure

Question
My 94 Olds 98  periodically after driving and turning the engine off will not restart. It turns over sound like it is going to start but will not. But 30 or 45 mins later it starts right up.2 but the 3rd it would not resart This may happen 2 or 3l times in a row then not again for a few months. Then this week it died 3 times when driving around 30  resarted  for 8   hours we tried it after 1 and 4. The check engine light will sometimes come on the car runs rough but resart the light goes out and never comes on when a mechanic has looked at it

Answer
Hello Carol,
When it is in one of those not start spells, you need to find out if it has spark at the spark plugs first, and then if there is fuel pressure at the fuel injectors. There is a test port for the fuel pressure. Get a little tester, and test the pressure when it is running good, so you know what it needs to be. Then, when it won't start, see if the same pressure is available.
