Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1989 Buick LeSabre no start problem, crank sensor, buick lesabre

Question
My 89 LeSabre will not start and I have found several problems and repaired them. First was a broken cam magnet. I replaced the timing chain and gears along with the cam magnet. This is the type which is a small plastic button that snaps into the cam gear. Afterwards I did get a cam signal at the ignition module, no crank signal. I replaced the crank sensor (gapped at .030 with a flat guage) and I get the proper voltages but still no spark. Is there a test I can do on the PCM and ignition module to see if they are functioning properly? I did test the bypass circuit and it is functioning.

Answer
Hi,Robert

Sounds like a failed ign module,in order to test the only true way to do so is with a scan tool monitoring crank and cam sensor data to the module,if you are getting good ref from the cam and the crank sensors then the module has just failed,at and below 400 rpm,the ign module controls spark rate, after the engine has started and running above 400 rpm the ECM then controls spark rate, usually if an ECM fails you'll get spark, engine will start and then stall,an ign module failure there will be no spark at cranking, contact me if you need more help,Thanks
