Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Ignition Coil, oldsmobile delta 88, fuel pressure regulator

Question
I have a 1992 Oldsmobile Delta 88 RoyaleLS. The other day I was driving around without any trouble for about 1 hour. All of a sudden when I would accelerate it seem to have not power at all on acceleration. I shut it off went into a store and returned in about 1 hour and same thing. Left the car sitting over night and started in the morning but it didn't do the same thing. A friend did a test and he said it was the ignition coil. Could the ignition coil cause this?

Answer
Hi,Wayned

Usually when an ign coil fails it will not fire the plugs this causes an ign missfire,if the eng ran normal meaning no stumble or missfire i would rule out that a coil is failed,i would check the fuel pump and also the fuel pressure regulator, they both are pretty common in causing your complaint, also in some cases the PCM{powertrain Computer}will cause this also,i have seen a few that the PCM was the cause, but have the fuel pressure checked and also the fuel pressure regulator.let me know if you need more help. Thanks
