my 1983 buick park avenue cut off on me and wont start and my battery went dead. two days before it cut off my head lights wouldnt come on and whenever they did come on they would blink off and on can you help me?

It could be a few things that cause this,start by the basics first,charge the battery up and check the battery making sure its in good condition,check the battery cables making sure they arent corroded with acid,clean them up and make sure they are secured tight on the battery,if now with a fully charged battery and good battery cable connections,start the car and check the alternator,you need a voltmeter or a alternator check tool availible at auto parts stores,the alternator needs to charge the battery when engine is running between 13.0 volts to 15.0 volts,if it is under or over those voltages,the alternator has failed and needs to be replaced,if you need anymore help feel free to contact me.Thanks
