Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: oil leak, half seal, drop pan

Question
1962 buick special V-6 engine has oil leak at rear crank bearing.  Don't want big expense of pulling engine, etc.  Any simple ideas to stop the leak?  Or if necessary, drop pan without removing the crankshaft, transmission, etc.?    Thanks

Answer
Hello Ralph,
If I'm not mistaken, all you need to do is drop the oil pan, and remove the rear main bearing cap. half the seal will be in the cap, and the other half you rotate out with the crankshaft, and rotate a new half seal in the same way.
Get a manual, and look at the proceedure.
You can copy some pages from a manual at the public library, refference section.
