Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: changed battery-horn wont stop?, fuse block, convenience center

Question
Dear Van, I have a 2000 Olds Intrigue, recently I replaced the original battery. When I connected the new battery, the horn started, one constant sound, I had to unplug the horn. I have tried hitting the horn button on the keyless entry, checked the fuse, let it go for a bit. This engine has had very little work done on it, runs great (3.5L). It just won't stop, and I can't get a correct answer on this? I really appreciate any help with this, thanks, Warren.

Answer
Hello Warren,
That is strange indeed.
There is a horn relay, probably in the convenience center, which is like a fuse block under the hood.
You could check the relay by swaping it with one of the other relays that are beside it, and see if the different relay still makes it blow. If it does, then the horn ring, or the antitheft alarm system is probably causing it.
But if it quits with the different relay, then the relay is, or was stuck.
I am unaware of any special proceedure required for changing the battery.
There used to be a proceedure if the radio had a DelcoLock system, but that was a radio theft deterrent, and didn't blow the horn. It was also well described in the owners manual, so I would look there, possibly under battery maintenance or replacement.
