Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 92 buick park avenue ultra..., buick park avenue, sentinel system

92 buick park avenue ultra   headlights will turn on randomly and kill battery  car has headlight sentinel taillights do not turn on when this happens  car has 175000 miles can i disconnect sentinel system and just use headlight switch if so how?  have owned car since 96 well maintained first problem with it  local mechanics seem to want to poke and guess help!!!!

I don't know anything about the sentinal system, but I would think if it were turning the headlights on, the tail lights would come on also.
I am wondering if your flash-to-pass switch, which is the headlight dimmer switch, might be bad.
I know that if you pull on the turn signal lever like you were going to switch from hi beam to low beam, you can flash the headlights without the tail lights working. That switch could be bad, or just out of adjustment.
Do you recall ever having any problem dimming the lights?
