Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1987 Oldsmobile Calais stalling, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
Dear Van,
My 1987 Oldsmobile Calais keeps stalling on me everytime I drive it. I then have to be towed or leave it sit for a couple hours then it will drive home but it runs really rough. When I start it in the mornings it will idle really high then dip down like it is about to die and then it will idle really high again before it dies. If it does stay started when ever I put it in reverse it dies immediatly. I have changed the ignition control module and the idler control valve. I have changed the air filter and it still dies. Can you help? I am desperate for an answer. Thank you so much.

Answer
Hello Ashley,
There is a good possibility the Mass Air Flow sensor is dirty.
You could also have low fuel pressure, or a vacuum leak, such as the EGR valve sticking.
I found an interesting article on how the dirty MAF sensor hurts the performance. I will send it to you.

Just a possibility, but a good one.

You can find a lot of info by going to Google, and search MAF sensor.
