Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: power windows in a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera S station wagon, oldsmobile cutlass ciera, 1994 oldsmobile cutlass ciera

Question
Hi Van,
The drivers side window will not move at all. I tried silicone spray and it did help the other windows, they were moving at a snail's pace. However, it did nothing for the drivers side. I don't hear a sound from it when I push on the switch. Could it be that from constant use over the years a wire connecting to the switch in the door panel broke? The area where the window and door locks are is a seperate insert with screws. I hope you can figure this out.
Thank you, Carolyn

Answer
Hi Carolyn,
Really, I think you will probably need a new motor in that door, but the only way to be sure is to check for power and ground at the motor wires. The switch switches both, and reverses polarity to change direction.
You can get in there and check the motor with jumper wires from the battery. If you can make the motor work with jumpers, then the switch, or the auto down relay is the problem.
But there is a circuit breaker inside the motor, and if it is worn out, just replacement is what is needed.
