Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1999 Buick Regal RH Rear Power Window, bolts and nuts, buick regal

Question
Recently the front LH power window stopped working on my 1999 Buick Regal. Today the RH rear window is showing the same symptoms. I don't want to have to pay another $400+ for another assembly to be replaced. I have some technical abilibity (replaced alternator and thermostat). Is this a repair I should attempt on my own? If so, any suggestions?

Answer
Hello Johnathan,
Assuming the motor is the problem, it is a repair that can be done in the driveway. You may wonder why you got yourself into it, but keep thinking $400.00, and it isn't all that bad. A few hours of work, and drill out some rivets. Replace rivets with bolts and nuts. Not all that bad.

But the drivers window, in addition to the possibility of the switch being the problem, also has module for hands free down. I have bypassed that module to repair what seemed to be a motor problem. Checking for power and ground to the motor is the way to know, including using jumpers to see if the motor will run with them. Jump both power and ground to the two wires of the motor. Reversing the jumpers, reverses direction of travel. If it works with jumpers, then you don't need a new motor, and need to check the switches, the circuit breaker or fusible link, and the module.
