Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Bravada - Key wont turn in ignition, key cylinder, safety interlock

My Bravada is an automatic with the shifter on the steering column and when I insert the ignition key, it won't turn at all. I've tried pulling and pushing on the shifter and have tried to turn the steering wheel (it's locked),and stepping on the brake pedal and no combinations of those things make a difference.
Any helpful hints would be appreciated as I can't even get it started to get it to the shop.

Without personally seeing this problem it could be the ignition switch or the key cylinder or the safety interlock system. There is no way to tell without performing some test procedures of which you will need the service manual in order to perform the tests. Your pretty well stuck to have it towed in.
