Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Mysterious Electrical Problem!, oldsmobile cutlass ciera, 1991 oldsmobile cutlass ciera

Question
Hi Van,
I have a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera SL,6 cyl,3.1L. Mileage:170,000.

Something(?) is causing this car to go through alternators quickly.
The alternator went out on the car 3 days after I got it.I bought a rebuilt one from Autozone and had it installed. But it went out again a week later.I noticed just before it did go out, when I had turned on the turn signal there was buzzing or static sound.
Anyway I returned the alternator and it did test bad and I was given another.
I had this one installed and it lasted only 300 miles! This time the charge light appeared;it previously did not.
And this alternator tested bad also. And was given another.
For the third time a alternator (rebuilt) was installed.I had expected the charge light not to return but it did. Two days later, the battery is still up but the light is staying on.
All the fuses are OK, so I don't know what could be causing all this trouble.I'm beginning to think this car is not fixable. But it does run good--it just has this electrical problem.

Someone told me it could be the fact those alternators are rebuilt and may not be good quality.
What do you suggest?Thank you for any advice.

Answer
Ask Autozone if they would replace it with a new alternator, or just keep replacing them under warranty.
As long as it doesn't strand you, they are easy to change.
A bad battery, or a poor connection between the alternator and the battery can cause it to charge all the time, and self destruct.
Or they could just be poor quality rebuilds.
