Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: headlights on 85 buick regal, beam headlights, buick regal

my headlights went out on my 85 buick regal limited all off a suddden they only work when i hold the high beam lever. is this just a fuse and if so what color is the fuse and where on the fuse box is it?and i have never had problems with the head lights before.

From the lever that you are holding there is a long metal rod that goes down thru the steering column and connects to the HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH that is mounted on the steering column under the dash. Replace the switch.

WARNING: Make sure that you TAPE this metal rod to the steering column SECURELY near the dimmer switch so as to hold it in place BEFORE you remove the HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH or the rod will disconnect from the lever that you have to pull on to turn ON and OFF the high beam headlights.
