Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Electrical, power door locks, fusible links

Question
How can I test the fusible links?  I will check the fuses again with a test light and then test the fusible links.

Thanks again!

I have a 1995 Buick Century.  The radio, power door locks, and overhead dome lights all stopped working at the same time.  I checked the fuses in the glove box and they all seem to be fine.  What do you think the problem might be?  Your time and advice is appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

What mechanical work or ANY kind of work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made as an electrical and or vacuum line may have been knocked loose. Look around in the area where work was performed..

Did you physically use a TEST LIGHT to check the fuses with or did you just LOOK at them ?.

Most likely you have lost battery voltage to a portion of the fuse box due to a burnt out FUSIBLE LINK at the starter post where the battery cable attaches.

Answer
The fusible links are rubber coated wires about 4 inches long that are attached to the normal plastic covered wires.

They extend from the starter post up into the plastic ribbed conduit covering for all the wires so you may have to peel back the ribbed covering to find the other end of the fusible link where it is attached to the plastic covered wires.

Check for battery voltage at each end of the fusible links. They may look OK visually but can be melted internally.
