I am working on my mothers 89 cutlass It was having problems for some time with stalling every once in a while. Well one day after an oil change it started and died after i returned it to her and would not restart. Every other time it restarted fine. Thought it was timming tor the front of the engine down but the timming is fine. I put my diegnostic comp on it and no codes. after trouble shooting it I found out that everything was fine but it was not injecting fuel into the cylenders. fuel pressure is fine just no fuel out of the injectors. the car will start if u squrt fuel into the air intake with a spray bottle.  I have a 90 olds cutlass supreme I am using for parts for my 93. The engine runs fine. I thought that the crank sensor in the 89 was bad so I took the one out of my 90 and replced it. They are both 3.1 V6 engines. well it still won't start. Thought about replacing the ECM from my 90 for the one in the 89. What do u think the problem is. And could it be the ECM in my moms car be bad. I have never seen one go bad.
Thanks for the help

Although the ECM's LOOK identical and they do fit the wire connectors THEY ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE as there as DIFFERENCES within the ECM's and also some of the wire locations in the plug in connectors are in DIFFERENT locations within the connectors.

You have a real BIG PROBLEM on your hands NOW.

Are you absolutely positive that the crank sensors from each vehicle are IDENTICAL and INTERCHANGEABLE ?. Call an auto parts stoer and ask for one for each vehicle and see if they are the SAME PART #.

Also check to see if the ECM's are the SAME PART #.

Also check about the REPLACEABLE PROMS within EACH COMPUTER to see if they also have the same part #.

With the ignition switch ON, Test for battery voltage at each PINK/BLACK wire at each injector electrical connectror at each injector.

Do you have battery voltage ?.

Know using a standard 12 volt test light use it as a jumper across the terminals of each injector electrical connector and try and start the engine and see if the test light flashes ON and OFF on all 6 connectors.

let me know.

I checked the part numbers for both cars as far as the crank sensors are concerned. They are the same . I am unshure about the ECM.  I checked the voltage at the injectors with a fluke meter and there is 12.3 volts. I als checked the injectors with the test light and it did not flash. I have also disasembled the fuel rail and checked the pressure regulator and it is clear of any obstructions. I can make the car start by spraying gas down the air intake with a spray bottle and it will start and run. So I know that everything else is working fine.  But the injectors will not open to alow fuel into the cylenders. What else controls the injectors? I am at a lose with this one.
Thanks for the help

Since you seem to be pretty well versed in automotive diagnostics and test procedures, I can provide you with a diagnostic chart and all the electrical schematics for your problem.

However, You will need to contact me at:
