Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1997 Olds Bravada, electric fuel pump, olds bravada

Question
Hi, I was out of town last week and my wife called and said the Bravada (1997) would not start (she had just driven it 30 minutes earlier).  There were no previous indications that anything was wrong with it.  The shop said the fuel pump was out and would run around $800 w/ labor.  I just returned from my trip, is there anything else I should check for that may be the cause before I have the pump replaced?  Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Rob

Answer
$800.00 to replace the electric fuel pump in the fuel tank is OUTRAGEOUS.

Pump runs about $75.00.
Labor is about 3 hours MAXIMUM.

Get some other estimates, There is no sense in making this shops MORTGAGE payment for them.

We put them in for $350.00 here in NM.

Sounds more like they are NOT sure what is wrong with the vehicle and are just guessing and trying to cover their BUTT in case it is something more severe.

I would NOT use their services.
