Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 2000 Buick LeSabre window problem, 2000 buick lasabre, chevy caprice

Question
My 2000 Buick LaSabre driver side rear window just quit working. You could hear some movement noises, then that quit. The window was left in the down position when this happen. I am able to lift the window by grasping it from both sides and lifting it up (no resistance), but there is nothing holding it in that position - so it eventually slips back down. I have read that this model and year has had window problems. Can I fix this myself or do I need a pro? If I am able to fix it, can you explain how I remove the door panel and what should I be looking for.

Thanks for your help

Tom

Answer
Hi Tom,
Sounds like the drive strip is broken.
I believe that one is like the Chevy Caprice. Uses a plastic strip with holes on a drive wheel to run the window. Looks like a roll of caps after the caps were shot, or ticker tape.
I found it pretty easy to replace, so I would think you can do it. Seems there was just a rivet to drill out, and replaced with a bolt and nut.
You should probably go to the public library, refference section, and make some copies of a service manual for your car. They have them there.
