Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: buick engine overheats, buick park avenue, low gears

Question
my car is a 1987 buick park avenue. I blew the engine and had mechanic put in a used engine, (rebuilt 6 months ago, according to mechanic and from a junk yard) to complicate things more my transmission was gettign stuck in the low gears and would not shift to the higher gears ( anything over 35-45 mph starts having engine go to 40 -50 rps) making the engine overheat...is this because of my tranmission or did I get a bad engine...I drove it local below 40 and still gets hot right away...I have plenty of fluids.

Answer
WHY in the world did you NOT find out WHAT caused the first engine to blow ?. Most likely it overheated due to a faulty radiator.

The bottom and half way up the radiator is most likely plugged up as all you can physically see if what's flowing thru the UPPER portion of the radiator while looking in the radiator cap hole.

On this old of a vehicle you NEVER EVER install ANY engine unless you install a BRAND NEW radiator as you are taking a SERIOUS risk using the old one.

On your junk yard engine, they will tell you ANYTHING to sell it to you.

Now who pays for all the labor and fluids to remove this junk yard enegine and install another engine ?. YOU DO. All your going to get from the junk yard is another engine, HOPEFULLY.

NO the transmission did not cause your engine fault. Check the color and smell of the transmission fluid. If it is discolored and or smells burnt it will have to be overhauled.

The cost to rebuild your transmission of which has many many new components that MUST be replaced due to re-calls and part failures can run as much as $2100.00.

There is a place called Phoenix Transmissions in Phoenix Arizona that used to be on Ebay that sold transmissions and they have a good reputation.
