Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Transmission Problem, oldsmobile cutlass supreme, oldsmobile cutlass

Question
I have a 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. I have not had a problem with it untill a few days ago. When driving it will not change up into 3rd gear. It goes from 1st to 2nd ok. Checked oil level and it was low so topped up but still same problem. What I have found is when you back off the throttle i.e. slowing down it then seems to change into 3rd, (this shows by drop in engine revs which then if you change gear selector to 2nd pick right back up again which I would expect when it down changes) but as soon as you touch throttle revs go right back up this is when "D" is selected. Hope this makes sense and you have some ideas of where I can start looking. Thanks for your help

Answer
Unfortunately your problem is with the direct drum clutches within the transmission. The trans MUST be removed and dis-assembled in order to make this repair.

We have been been overhauling transmissions for many many years and still teach young people how to rebuild them.

We charge only for the parts and $100.00 labor. To have a local facility do the repair usually runs about $500 to $600 in LABOR ONLY.

Since we are in New Mexico you would have to ship the trans to us and it would be shipped back to you when completed.

We would be glad to make this repair for you.
