Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: power seat, electric solenoids, buick lesabre

my 1984 buick lesabre has power seats that when the button is pushed you can hear the motor running but the seat wont go forward or back what could cause this problem,Bill  

Answer
Under the drivers seat there is what is called a POWER SEAT TRANSMISSION of which is comprised on 4 or 5 electric solenoids and several gears and cables. You have a choice of replacing the complete seat transmission or removing, disassembling it and replacing the faulty solenoids.

I do NOT know your mechanical ability IF you could tackle this kind of a project that would be about a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being extremly difficult and one being very simple.
