Question
thanks tom,
i appreciate your help, a local mechanic who seems pretty sharp has quoted me about 5 hours of labor @$75 per hr plus the pump kit @ $70. this seems a bit on the high end and wanted to let you know my options. Thanks again

tom

i need to replace the water pump on my 97 aurora(cadillac engine). how much time is invovled with the r/r. should i send it to a gm dealer for the service? thank you in advance for your response.
Answer -
This is NOT one of the easiest projects to do. On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being extremly hard, I would rate this at about a 6.

If you have never done one, i do NOT recommeend that you try it by yourself without having expert guidance.

Your looking at approx $300 to $400 or more to have it replaced depending on where you have the work performed..

Answer
As long as he is REPUTABLE and has a good trach record the price is OK. If you do NOT know this technician and or the facilities reputation, I would suggest to see if they are a member of the BBB and call the BBB and ask if they have had any complaints filed against them for poor workmanship BEFORE you get involved.
