Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Olds Alero, olds alero, crank shaft

Question
I have a 2001 Olds Alero. I went out to start it this morning and it will not start. It turns over fine but does not start. I noticed in the past that I had been smelling a stong gas odor. The dealer I took it to replaced a canister that has something to do with fuel emissions. What might be the problem and how do I get it to start to get it to a dealer?

Answer
If you have a STRONG smaell of gas this would most likely indicate a problem with ignition to the spark plugs.

Check to see if you have spark to ALL of the spark plugs as you try and start the vehicle.

Also pull out one of the spark plugs and see if it is soaked with gas or has a blackish residue on the electrode tip. If it DOES, You need to either clean the spark plugs or replace them. But make SURE that you check for ignition to the plugs.

Most causes of NO spark to the plugs is:

1. faulty crank shaft sensor.
2. faulty ignition module.
3. faulty ignition coil(s).

One you get your problem resolved. CHANGE the oil anf oil filter as they will be saturated with gas and will cause the vehicle to run rough.
