Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 96 olds ciera, fuel pressure regulator, accell

I think this car has a 3.1 6 cy. The problem is when I start driving I can only give it a little bit of gas or it starts surging .It does this in all gears but it happens when you are going up hills and straight aways.If you a careful not to push the gas to far you can hit 70 80 no problem.If you floor it it stuters then takes off. The engine light will flash when it starts to stutter then go out when you let off the gas a bit . I put in a new fuel filter. Driving me nuts any help? Buy the way you guys all do a great job on here I enjoy reading through some of you answers.

hi jeff, and ty for the compliments we try hard.  well this is a difficult problem but sure sounds like this dude is loseing fuel pressure on accell.if so  fuel pressure regulator will fix it.but may be a weak pump .i would try the regulator.good luck billymac
