Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: ECM, oldsmobile regency 98, oldsmobile regency

Question
I own a 1990 Oldsmobile Regency 98 - 3.8 liter - The car has little power and chugs when you press too far down on the gas peddle. I pulled the codes and it said code 44 ecm. I know it controls lots of things like the gas, but where is it and how do you replace it? How can I be sure that it will solve my problem? The auto store told me  $120, so I dont want to waste money on a part that is not going to help. I checked the fuse, it was fine. Any info would be helpful thanks

Answer
hi matt,  well this part is behind the glove box a silver metal box.you will need to remove the prom out of this one {don,t touch with bare hands}  once you get ecm out you will see an access panel you can remove the prom is in here.remove it and install it in the new computer.and there is no way of knowing this will fix your problem .as in  you have a ecm code which means ecm is malfuntioning.so this itself is a big prob.because without this working properly you cannot diagnose any prob with your car.change it this will mostlikely fix the prob.and it will be able to help repair whatever else is malfuntioning.good luck please vote for me billymac
