Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 92 Lesabre barely running, scary noises, oil level

Question
Billy, We have a 92 Lesabre w/ 100K that has not been mistreated.  It is idling very rough and dies quickly. It is making some scary noises like something could be broken inside engine, but I'm not sure if this isnt due to very rough idle and engine shaking.  It was running fine and was taken on a 75 mile trip prior to being parked for a few hours, then it started doing this.  No check engine lite comes on, we have not checked to see if there are stored codes.  Oil level is fine, but oil smells strongly of fuel. Some black smoke comes out tail pipe, but it doesnt smoke too badly.  Hope we can save this one.
Thanks for your assistance,  Jeff

Answer
hi jeff, well you didn,t say anything about recent repairs so we will have to assume none have been.sounds like a real good tune up is in order here plugs wires fuel filter.it sounds like a pretty bad miss and a wire or plug would cause this.and the eng could make some odd noise also.there is other problems that this could be such as a rocker that may have came off under the valve cover.this would be noisy and kill a cylinder.but better off too tune up anyway especially if you don,t know when the last tune was.if no luck write back and i will give you the answers you need to find this problem.please vote for me billymac
