Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Olds 88, 1988 wont start, starter solenoid, fusible links

Question
I have a 1988 88 that will not start. It seemed fine for awhile and for the last few days it have seemed to want to start slowly (i.e. like a dead battery). Today, I get nothing. There is not clicking (like a starter problem), the lights and all of the instruments light up okay but it is just dead when I turn the key over. Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Johny,
May just be a loose connection, like through the firewall plug, or at the ignition switch.
There are some fusible links, and the headlights are fed from a different one than the ignition circuit.
That one might come from the starter battery post, as a red wire, to the firewall connector.
Then, I believe the wire from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid is purple.
Or, a starter may be what is needed.
Some test light tests, though, and jumping across the terminals at the starter solenoid may help isolate it, but that starter is real hard to get to.
The best way I have found on that one is jack up the car, and remove the right front wheel, and go in through there to get to the starter connections.
