Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 98 Buick Park.Ave. trunk wont stay closed, buick park ave, screw driver

Question
Hi Billy Mac,

Thank you so much for that quick reply!!  I went out
and did as you suggested.  The latch doesn't appear stuck.
But I did some more investigation as I was going through the
steps you gave me.  The motorized up/down mechanism works.
The latch moves freely.
There is a tiny metal "face" on the surface of the latch that apparently
swings through the hasp and hits another tiny metal face up inside the
top latch mechanism which I assume triggers something that locks it and
holds it in place.  I'm guessing that this is where the problem lies.  The trunk goes down, the latch swings through the hasp freely when it is supposed to but doesn't stay there.
So, would there be a fuse or short in the wire?  Or do I probably need to replace that whole top mechanism? Are parts like this for a 98 Park Avenue attainable?  Thank you again!!!  Kathie

My trunk won't close.  I can hear the mechanism "humming" as I set the lid down and it "pulls" it closed, but as soon as I let go, up it pops.  Whatever is supposed to catch it apparently doesn't.  It's been leaking water lately too prior to this.  Is this something I can fix myself?
Answer -
HI KATHIE,WELL I AM SURE YOU CAN FIX IT YOURSELF ,IF WE CAN JUST FIGURE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE DARN THING LOL.IT REALLY SOUNDS LIKE EITHER YOUR POWER TRUNK SWITCH IS STUCK OPEN OR THE LATCH IS JAMMED.FIRST TRY PUSHING THE POWER OPEN BUTTON.IF THIS DON,T WORK HAVE A ASSISTANT PUSH THE BUTTON AND YOU TAKE A SCREW DRIVER AND TRY AND WORK THE MECH MANUALLY.IF YOU GET IT TO WORK THEN SPRAY THE LATCH ASSY WITH WHITE GREASE AND WORK IT A FEW TIMES.IF THIS DON,T WORK WRITE AND I WILL TELL YOU HOW TO REMOVE THIS LATCH FOR REPLACE MENT.TY PLEASE VOTE FOR ME PETE IS KILLIN ME LOL BILLYMAC

Answer
hi kathie, and good job,you make the men who write me look really bad.lol. yes you will have to order from the dealer and yes they will have no prob aquireing it.when you replace it the trunk probably won,t close all the way down if not the bolts that hold it on also are the bolts that adjust it just loosen them and move them up or down which ever is required.good luck please vote for me ty billymac
