Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 1992 Olds 88 - No Spark, ft lbs torque, volt pulse

Question
Hi there Billy,

I think when I voted it wasnt the right area to ask the clarifying question. But here we go again.

I checked the codes and I still only have 41 (cam sensor) which has been defective for well over a year. So I tested the 4 wires coming into the ingintion control module and three were 9 volt and one was .3 volt. I checked this with key on engine off.

Is that the way I was to test the crank sensor or is there a better way?

Oh ya, on a side note, with the cam sensor, I think all that happened is the magnet fell off, is there a way to replace it or am I euchured.

Thanks,
Trevor

Hi there,

Well, I have no spark. I changed the coil pack, as I just happened to have another around but still no luck. Is there a way that I (maybe slightly better than the average do everything in my own garage kinda guy) can test the ignition pack or crank sensor on my own. If so, is it crazy difficult to change the sensor, as Im told I need a "special" tool to get the balancer off?

Oh by the way, the final moments were as follows. I started the car, ran for 5 secs and stalled, (not so worried as it has stalled before but mostly im sure due to the rough idle as experinced by a cam sensor that decided to fall off many moons ago and too lazy to fix.) so I restarted and then stalled in slightly less amount of time. Then tried to start and no go. then again after 1 hour, 4 hour and 8 hour and then checked for spark and found none. Good Grief...

Thanks,
Trevor

hi trevor, yes check the cranksensor for a 5 volt reference,or a 5 volt pulse.but it really sounds like a cranksensor.the trick to getting damper off is a real good impact wrench.this bolt has nearly 200 ft lbs torque and no way to hold eng. good luck billymac please don,t forget to vote for me ty billymac

Answer
hi trevor.yes you have to follow up here at the question section.ok you done it all right except you need to crank eng while checking for a 5 volt reference.. you will need to change that sensor.you need 5 volts at the ref wire not three.and it needs to pulse on and off as you crank eng.then test module plug make sure you have pulse there also. good luck billymac
