Hi there, we have a 1994 Oldsmobile 98. Somebody tried stealing the car and messed up the ignition. We bought a new steering column and my husband replaced it. All the wires have been reconnected and it still will not start. The ignition key has one of those vat (I think that is how it is spelled) chips in it. We bought the new column which included a new key (with a vat chip). We were told the new column would be campatible for the car and the car would recognize the new chip. Is there a special switch or wire we are overlooking?
Thank you in advance for your reply

hi heather, well here is the problem the anti theft system is specific to each car.so if you bought a used coloumn you would have to buy a new ignition and programmed key for your car from the dealer.you see all the computer knows is that, you don,t have the right key so it will shut down.you have to get key from dealer for your car .good luck billymac

The used column came with the ignition as well as the key. Is there something else that needs to be changed? The windows work and the radio comes on so everything is getting power but the car will not start like there is a kill switch some place.  Thanks so much
