Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Had Spark plugs changed and now runs awful., oldsmobile cutlass supreme, oldsmobile cutlass

Question
One more thing. about those plugs, I asked him about gaping them and he said because the ones I got were platnums, They don't need to be gaped. Just want to make sure thats accurate. And also I put Bosch plantnums in this time and the ones I took out were cheapy AC Delcos. Is it true that some makes of cars like only certain brands of spark plugs? And would something as simple as that cause the problem I described? I will check those suggestions you gave me out before I end up taking it to the shop. Thanks again.-------------------------

Hello. I have a 1990 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme,3.1,V-6. Sure it is an older car, but 3 years ago it had the engine and tranny completly rebuilt, and it ran great. I change the oil regularly and filters but thats about it and I noticed recently it had seemed to still run o.k. but just seemed a little tired. So, I had a guy I know put in an oxygen sensor in ,no problems then, and two weeks later some new spark plugs. Right after the new plugs were put in, the car began to run terrible. It runs rough, it doesn't like hills or when I accelerate,This causes it to vibrate and surge and just really have a hard time. The same guy checked to make sure all plugs were in right and not loose and then we even bought new plug wires hoping this would help. It's still the same. What could it be? What did he do to my car?I wish I never changed the spark plugs. Please let me know what this sounds like to you and all other possible causes you can think of. Thanks.

hi milissa, well maybe he done nothing wrong .but here are some possibilities.maybe one of the plugs got dropped and the electrode on the plug closed which will make the plug misfire.maybe it was just a bad plug from the factory.here is what you do take the plugs back out all of them.check for proper gap.you will prob find one in the back that has no gap.if so regap.and reinstall.if they all look good.make sure the fireing order is right as in each spark plug wire going exactly where it is supposed to go.this should fix the prob if not get back with me and we can dig a little deeper.and don,t be so hard on your friend this happens to us all sometimes..please take a min of your time to rate my help ty billymac

Answer
HI MILISSA, OK WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT IS PRE GAPPED PLUGS.BUT WHAT I WAS SAYING IS THAT ONE MAY HAVE GOTTEN DROPPED AND THE ELECTRODE BENT. AND YES GM USES AC DELCO AND I ALSO DO ,GM,S RUN BETTER ON AC DELCO .AS THEY ARE OEM ORIGINAL EQUIPTMENT REPLACEMENT PARTS SO I PERSONALLY HAVE HAD PROBS WITH BOSCH PLATNUM,HOWEVER THAT IS ONLY MY OPINION.BUT LET,S LOOK AT THINGS THE WAY TECHNICIANS DO.LOGICAL, IF YOUR CAR RAN GOOD BEFORE THE TUNE UP AND BAD AFTER,THEN WHATEVER WAS DONE IN THE TUNE UP CAUSED THE PROBLEM ,SO IF PLUGS ARE WHAT WAS CHANGED AND THE FIREING ORDER IS RIGHT,THEN IT HAS TO BE THE PLUGS.IF YOU GO BUY 6 AC DELCO PLUGS AND BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO DROP ONE ON THE GROUND .YOUR PROB WILL GO AWAY...TY FOR RATEING ME MILISSA WRITE ANYTIME BILLYMAC
