Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: car wont start/service engine soon, car down, olds intrigue

Question
Okay, so I don't know anything about cars, and I'm practically desperate... I have a 2000 Olds Intrigue, V6... and for the past week or so, it's been slow starting (but it would eventually start), and twice it hasn't started at all.. it just makes the clicking noise and that's it.  The first time I was able to give it gas, and it started, but it happened again last night.  Also, when it does run, it always says "Service Engine Soon" and I really don't have any resources to take my car in to get fixed, so I was wondering if there was anything I could do to hold me over until I'm able to take it in?  Thanks...

Answer
HI JAIME,WELL THE CLICKING SOUND I AM GOING TO HAVE TO ASSUME THAT YOU ARE SAYING THAT THE ENGINE IS NOT SPINNING OVER.IF THIS IS THE CASE ,THEN YOU NEED TO TAKE THE BATTERRY CABLES LOOSE AND CLEAN THEM AND TIGHTEN THEM ,YOU SHOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE THE CABLES.IF THE CAR STARTS PROB SOLVED.I WILL TELL YOU THE SERVICE ENG LIGHT WILL BE OFF AT THAT TIME ,BUT WILL MORE THEN LIKELY COME BACK ON.IF THE LIGHT IS ON AND THE CAR RUNS FINE ,THEN JUST IGNORE IT .IT COULD BE 50 THINGS BUT NONE LIKELY TO SHUT THE CAR DOWN.IT CAN WAIT.BUT I REALLY NEED TO KNOW IF THE ENGINE TURNS OVER WHEN IT WON,T START OR IF IT DOES TURN OVER AND JUST NOT START.PLEASE TAKE A MIN OF YOUR TIME TO RATE MY HELP MOST DON,T.TY BILLY MAC .I WILL BE HAPPY TO HELP ANYTIME
