Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: starting problems, theft deterrent system, purple wire

Question
i have a 1995 buick regal custom 4dr. 3800 v-6 auto trans. I went to crank it, turned the key and nothing. The dash lights stay on when I turn the key. I checked the fuses with a test light, checked the battery, starter to see if connections were tight, and have chased a few wires. Could it be the park/netural switch or the theft deterrent system. I could sure use your help.
thanks, rob h

Answer
hi rob,yes it certainly could be nsw.try starting in neutral .if not here is what you can do to find out.have a assistant help you.get under your hood at the transmission.see where the cable moves the selector .there is a wide plug theretake a test lite and have someone try and crank it it will i believe be a purple wire.test lite should come on when you try and crank if it does then.move down the plug see if the wire lights up on other side of switch.if you do switch is fine starter is bad.another way to check starter with less testing be sure car is in park and wheels blocked.go down to starter purple wire on single pole big red cable on large bolt touch these two together if car starts starter ok..good luck please take a sec to rate my service ty billymac
