Can you please help me. I have a 2001 olds alero and I am ready to get rid of it! Three weeks ago I started having problems with it. I went to start it one day and it would not start. I check the battery, alternator, and starter...all are fine. I changed the spark plugs and cables and car started just fine for two weeks then one day it died on me again with no warning. Checked the fuel pump and relay both are working fine. The car tries to start but as soon as I let go of the key it dies again. Can you please help!

HI NDIANA,WELL THIS IS A COMPLICATED CAR WITH A PRETTY TOUGH PROBLEM.NO THAT TOUGH WITH PROPER DIAGNOSTICS.BUT OVER NET TOUGH.BUT I WILL GIVE IT MY BEST OK.FIRST OF ALL WE HAVE TO LOOK AT THE WIRES AND PLUGS YOU CHANGED.AND HOW WOULD THAT MAKE THE CAR RUN .HMMM IS THIS THE SAME PROB OR A DIFF PROB.WELL THE ONLY WAY IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE WIRES AND PLUGS TO HAVE CHANGED ANYTHING.IS THE FACT THAT THEY HOOK TO THE COILS .WHICH ARE MOUNTED ON THE IGNITION MODULE.AND BYE REPLACEING WIRES.YOU ACTUALLY DECREASED THE RESISTANCE IN THE WIRES WHICH WOULD FORCE THE PUTER TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO A ALREADY STRESSED MODULE.THE MODULE HAS TWO SIDES START SIDE AND RUN SIDE.THIS WOULD EXPLAIN WHY IT TRY,S TO START UNTIL YOU RELEASE THE KEY.SO KNOWING ALL THIS IT CAN ONLY BE ONE OF TWO THINGS#1 IGNITION MODULE  #2 CRANKSENSOR.WHICH ONE IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY WITH OUT TESTING .BUT BEST GUESS  MODULE..GOOD LUCK .PLEASE TAKE A SEC TO RATE MY HELP.TY BILLYMAC

Actually I just wanted to say thank you so much. I tested the module and it was faulty. I replaced it and the car works fine now. Out of curiousity what causes that part to become damaged? The reason I ask is because I did have a "mechanic" look at my car when all the problems first happened and he said that he changed out the module as well, unfortuantely he had no proof of that. So back to my question...if he did replace that module why would it have burned out so fast? Once again thank you so much for all your help!

Answer
HI DIANA,AND TY FOR WRITEING BACK TO THANK ME .THIS DOESN,T HAPPEN OFTEN BUT I REALLY APPRICIATE IT..WELL I AM SURE YOU KNOW THAT PARTS ARE SOMETIMES BAD EVEN IF THEY ARE NEW.HOWEVER THIS IS WHY THEY ALL HAVE ATLEAST A ONE YEAR WARRANTY.A LOT OF THINGS COULD HAVE HAPPENED THEY COULD HAVE PUT ONE ON LIEING AROUND THE SHOP.MAYBE ONE BOUGHT FOR A MIS DIAG.BUT YOUR MODULE WORKS EVERYTIME YOUR CAR RUNS AND IT HAS A HARD JOB .YOU MAY NEVER HAVE TO REPLACE IT AGAIN.SO I WOULDN,T WORRY TOO MUCH .IF SOMETHING WAS CAUSEING THIS IT WOULD BURN IT OUT INSTANTLY SO GOOD LUCK AND FEEL FREE TO WRITE ANYTIME.TY BILLYMAC
