I have a 96 buick LeSabre 3.8L that will not put out heat. the ac blows cold I have full control over vent, defrost and feet as well as fan level. I can also change the temp. setting on the display and watch the controler behind the glove box move. the upper and lower radiator hoses are equal in temperature. the water pump was replaced in the spring of 04 as well as flushing the system (it was very nasty). at one time you could while driving down the interstate gun the engine and you would get heat until you shut off the car then no heat again. but that does not happen anymore. the ac compressor runs all the time the system is on,(heat or cool). when you turn the system off the ac compressor shuts off. the heater hoses going to the heater core do not feel as hot as I think they should. this problem just started all of a sudden it wasn't like it gradually stopped heating, one day no heat. prior to this problem the only repairs done were plugs and wires (8 months prior)and regular oil changes. there is no service engine light on. other than the heat issue the car seems to run fine. whats wrong? thanks

hi bill.well one thing yhat you said, was the heater core hoses are not hot.is one hotter then the other? if so heater core is not circulateing.if both hoses are same temp.bad t stat. here is how you tell.feel the hoses at eng normal temp.at 190 degrees you can hold your hand on it but not comfortable.so if you can hold your hand on it and not have to move it .not190 degrees..again bad t stat.or wrong stat..if you are sure the eng is atleast 190 ,then other possibilities.you saw the controller move but was there any change.do you have a elec controller inline on heater hoses? are you looking at the right controller or is there others?try and disconnect the air comp see if you have heat then.but i will tell you that normally it is a t stat..good luck let me know.please take a sec of your time to rate my help ty billymac
Follow up question: Billy we're half the way there. I replaced the T stat (195 degF).I figured it was time but it made no difference. so I disconnected both heater core hoses  and used the hose to flush it out again when I put the hose on the upper hose to the heater core it would not flow so I did the lower and it must of cleared it. I did the upper hose again and it flowed clear I repeated that and put the hoses back on started the car and let it come up to temperature and was getting heat out of the drivers side and cold out of the passenger side. I do have duel climate control on the passenger side door so I turned it up all the way still no heat from the passenger side. also the defroster only blows hot on the drivers side. the coolant is fairly new and appears clear.the old T stat looked fine. Why is there no heat on the passenger side now. also I filled out the survey and let them know you've been a great help and have passed on this web site to others. thanks Bill

Answer
HI BILL,DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL WHAT A CONCEPT LOL.THIS IS A VERY COMPLICATED DESIGN.WHICH INCORPORATES NOT ONLY A ECM  BUT ALSO A BCM BODY CONTROL MODULE.WE CANNOT DIAGNOSE WITH OUT THE HELP OF ASCANNER TO TELL EXACTLY WHICH PART OF THE DCC.BUT I CAN YELL YOU WHEN YOU MOVE THAT LEVER FROM COLD TO HOT A VACUM MOTOR UNDER THE PASS SIDE HAS TO OPEN A DOOR UNDOUBTABLY THE DOOR IS STUCK OPEN AND ONCE YOU FREE IT YOU WILL HAVE HEAT ON THAT SIDE.HAVE A HELPER MOVE THE LEVER WHILE CAR IS RUNNING AND YOU AND A FLASH LIGHT LOOK UNDER DASH AND SEE WHAT IS MOVEING PROBABLY JUST A ROD DISCONNECTED.THE ROD WILL MOVE BUT NOT MOVE THE DOOR.IF YOU CAN,T FIND THE PROB GET BACK WITH ME I WILL RESEARCH AND SEND INFO ON IT .BILLYMAC
