How can I identify the location of the oil sensor or gauge on the 2001 Oldsmobile Bravada. The problem is that the oil gauge doesn't register...no movement of the needle. I've been told that the oil sensor is bad, and the garage wants over $700. to replace it. Is it reasonable to think that the part could be ordered and replaced simply or does it require dismantling of some part of the engine to reach it?

Thanks,

Hello Valerie,
Surely they were teasing you? $700. for a pressure sender is rediculous.
Now, if the engine actually was tested and shown to have no oil pressure due to a problem with the pump, then seven hundred might be clos for having the pump replaced.
Your problem could also possibly be the gauge itself, or just a loose connection.
But if they didn't remove a sender or plug and screw in a mechanical gauge to test the actual pressure, they don't know what the problem is. I would take it to a different mechanic.

But before you do, check your warranty and see if it is expired by time or miles.
Good luck,
Van

Thanks for the response, but do you know where the sensor is located?  Where can we get a diagram of the engine which shows the sensor locations?

Answer
Hello Valerie,
At the public library, in the refference section, they have the shop manuals, as well as Chilton, Motors, and Mitchell manuals.

You can go to a parts house, and get them to let you see a sender, so you know what to look for. They may even show a breakdown on the computer showing where it is located.

Usually they are located right beside where the distributor would go, which is the rear of the intake manifold area.
