Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 2000 Olds Intrigue starting problem, fuel pressure regulator, oldsmobile intrigue

Question
My 2000 Oldsmobile Intrigue (74,000 miles) has not been starting consistently. Sometimes I have to turn the key several times before the inition kicks the engine on. The electrical works, just not the engine. I recently took it to a dealership and left it there so that they could catch the problem they finally did. I just received a phone call from them telling me that there is a flat spot on the starter and that it would have to be replaced. They also told me that I have a slight leak in the fuel pressure regulator that is causing a warm start. They suggest that I get that fixed also before it causes worse problems doen the road. My question to you is: Do I have to replace the regulator now or can it wait? The total costs that they are quoting for the complete job is over $700. I really don't have that kind of money (who ever has enough for car repairs :-) and would like to wait a while. What are the dangers?

Answer
hi arnold.sorry so long to reply puter probs.well arnold the fuel pressure leak is very important.the starter may be able to wait.and as you said you are at a dealership so i assume you are being charged a pretty high rate and pricey parts also what i would do is call a reputable independant and get a estamate on these repairs they will use aftermarket parts which are gm approved and the labor will be a lot more reasonable.remember the fuel prob is a safety problem and should certainly be addressed first.hope this helps.please don,t forget to rate my help ty billymac
