Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Hot alternator, air conditioner compressor, alternator

Question
I have a 1991 Olds Cutless Supreme. The alternator went out ,got a new one ,installed it.It gets very  hot in no time, then I smell a burning smell.
What could be the problem?
This is what the old one was doing before it went out.Is there a short , or something?
The radio started to sound funny and so does the blower .thanks for any suggestions. Pat

Answer
Hello Pat,
Could be a short, but I doubt it. A fuse would blow first.
Take the belt off, and see if the other belt driven accessories turn freely, including the idler pulley, and the air conditioner compressor pulley.
If they all turn freely, and the belt isn't rubbing somewhere, go to the parts house and have them load test the alternator.
They should do it for free, and tell you what they find.
