Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: racing idle, throttle position sensor, vacuum leaks

Question
I know this is not your make but the top brass suggested I try another expert because the guy in Plymouth was not responding. The problem is new to me. My first fuel injection system. Maybe you have an idea.
My 88 ply, reliant was running so rough I could not drive it. I checked the codes and it said my automatic idle sensor had a short. I replaced the ais and found the the wire harness was shorted due to heat. Respiced the wires. Then the car idled so high I could not safely drive it. Tried letting it run so the computer could relearn the mix but it never lowered. I rechecked the codes and I still had the asi code coming up, but a new one added to it. The tps--throttle position sensor.I put in a new tps but it changed nothing. The butterfly in the throttle body is fully closed. I can not find any vacuum leaks of any significance--vacuum purge seloid should not cause a racing idle. Can you suggest anything?

Answer
hi jim. well as far as the codes more then likely these codes are set due to the fact when a puter realizes an eng is haveing a prob it will try and compensate. and it will over compensate and will cause more probs .but to be honest it sounds like you have a leaky fuel injector or possibly a bad pressure regulator.you see the regulator can blow a seal and allow pressure to be low and cause  a driveability prob usually runs bad../but an injector leaking will leak fuel in the tb and increase your idle.and one cause the eng to run bad rich fuel.shut eng off remove breather open throttle feel inside for wet fuel if so injector is leaking.i would go to the junk yard and buy used one new one for that vehicle is salty.now before you try any of this there is one more possibility.the egr valve jim remove it and make sure it is opening and closeing and no holes or carbon on pintle.and also unplug idle sensor with car off if still idles high try this other stuff.good luck don,t forget to rate us..billy mac
