Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Buick Century acceleration problem, buick century, engine didn

Question
We have a dying 94 Buick Century that my husband uses for work.

I had to drive it today; well, okay, I TRIED to drive it today.  It started fine, went into gear fine, but when I pushed the accelerator, nothing happened.  Nada, nothing.  Pushed it to the floor and the engine didn't even idle differently.

We had the car towed but they can't work on it for another week.

Can you give me any insight on what the problem might be?  I want to brace myself for the cost and inconvenience.

Thanks for your help!

Answer
hi karin. well it sounds like you have one of a cpl probs either the accell cable is broken or possibly just came unhooked.in which case you or hubby will be able to see where it hooks up bye one of you pushing the pedal the other see what it is doing under the hood.if it is hooked up and you can see it moveing the throttle.then something in the throttle body itself has broken.which if you buy new 3 or 4 hundred.but one from a junkyard will be about 50.00$ and one hr labor to replace.so it shouldn,t be no huge expense karin certainly not enough to put the ole girl out of her misery  lol.good luck please don,t forget to rate us
