Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: windshield wipers parking straight up, windshield wiper motor, windshield wiper transmission

Question
-Van, here is something else I found.  I will check the wireing first.
GM
Wipers park in vertical position. The windshield wipers on some 2002 models-Buick Centurys and Regals, Chevy Impalas and Monte Carlos, Olds Intrigues and Pontiac Grand Prix-may get stuck in the vertical position due to a bent park tab on the wiper motor bracket.

To fix the problem, install a new windshield wiper motor crank arm (Part No. 12494832) and a windshield wiper motor bracket service kit (Part No. 88958149; or 88958260 for Canadian vehicles).

Here's how: Remove the windshield wiper motor drive system module. If the park tab on the motor bracket is bent, remove the windshield wiper transmission from the bracket. Then remove the crank arm from the motor. Now remove the wiper motor from the bracket.

Assemble the windshield wiper motor drive system using a new crank arm and the contents of the windshield wiper motor bracket service kit. The park tab should now be straight.

Finally, reinstall the wiper motor transmission onto the new bracket. The bracket must seat against the park tab on the windshield wiper motor bracket. Next, reinstall the crank arm. Install the windshield wiper drive system module and test the wipers.

-Car is out of warranty.  Where can you find the wiper module and wireing
I can't see anything under the hood.  The motor must be well hiden.

2002 Buick Century Custom
Wipers wipes fine but when you turn the switch to off, they will park straight up instead of going to the side.
Answer -
Not still under warranty?
Sounds like it may have a wiper module problem, but check for loose wire connection first.

Answer -
Gathel, I work on trucks, where the module is in the wiper motor housing. I have seen the same type motor on an Olds Cutlass, under the hood. The wire connector plugs directly to the module, and sometimes wiggling the plug will fix it, at least for a while.
It is also possible that the motor itself is the problem.
Good luck,
Van

Answer
I know I asked about warranty, but if there is a problem to a lot of GM vehicles, they will come out with a campaign, which is like a recall, where they will fix it for free, but they won't call you about the problem....only fix it if you contact them. Have a dealership look for recalls and campaigns for you. You will need the VIN #.
Good luck,
Van
