Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: poor idle and stumble at 30 to 60 mph, olds cutlass ciera, throttle position sensor

Question
Hi Van .I am having a drivablity problem with a
1994 olds cutlass ciera sl 3.3 litre car. The
car stumbles when idling and will stumble at
highway speeds, but not under heavy exceleration
the service engine light is not lite and there
are no codes present . My first thoughts on this
problem, was that I might have water in the fuel
but that would show up under heavy exceleration?
Any advice you could give me would be greatly
appreciated. I am 150 miles from the nearest
service area as I live in the Yukon , Canada
thanks again.  Last year I
installed a new fuel pump, fuel filter, water
pump and altinator. the car has run problem free
untill last week.

Answer
Hi Peter,
Water sure could be the problem. Run some drygas, and injector cleaner through it.
I have a 95....same car, and had a broken valve spring that only acted up about 55 MPH, and in overdrive. Acted fine under heavy acceleration, even that fast. But it actually shuddered.
You might also want to check the throttle position sensor. You can do that with just an ohm meter, looking for smooth transition all the way through the range of travel.
Actually, an analog ohm meter works best for that check, but don't use it to check voltage from the computer, unless it is a high impedance meter.
A vacuum leak is another thing to look for.
Good luck,
Van
