Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Battery life, ac delco, car batteries

Question
Hope you know a bit about car batteries and life expectancy. And I know life expectancy can vary, but I would like to hear your knowledge in this area. I have a 1998 Buick Century, so it is 6 years old and the battery as well. I believe the car was acutally made in March or April of '98. Not sure.

The fact is I will be replacing the battery (which is about 6 years old) soon, but can't afford it now believe it or not. I am on a tight budget for a while and in March I have to buy the license sticker AND get the car inspected. So both together is around $95. I would hate to be stranded with a dead battery, but this one still turns the engine over without any hesitancy.

Have you any knowledge about batteries like mine AC-Delco 6 year battery. The car is driven only in the city. 36,000 miles or so. Do you think I can make it till middle of April? Tough to say huh? Will there be any type of warnings I can look out for. As for other batteries, I have noticed they go quickly, unlike older cars of the 70's say. Just wondered about that. Thanks for your help. KB

Answer
Hi Kevin,
If you have had no problem starting, I bet it will easily make it to mid April.
Some things to look for are slow cranking, possibly the lights dimming down noticably when you let off the gas. The heater blower may even slow down when you let off the gas.
If you have AAA, or a cell phone with roadside assist, I would run it a while longer.
